Armani



Born in Piacenza, Italy in 1934, Giorgio Armani is one of the most celebrated and influential designers Italy has ever produced.

Breaking into the fashion industry was only by chance for Armani.

Working as a window dresser at a large Milanese department store, La Rinascente, he developed his classic style.

By 1964, armed with an in-depth knowledge of fabric and design, he was taken on as a designer for Nino Cerruti's men's clothing company, Hitman.

In 1974, Armani launched his own menswear label and womenswear came a year later.

Since 1975, other Armani labels have been created including the Junior line, Underwear, Swimwear, Accessories and Occhiali.

Armani claims to be base his vision on the everyday people on the street.

DKNY



The Daughter of a fashion model and a haberdasher, Donna Karan was steeped in fashion from childhood.

She attended Parsons School of Design, after her second year took a summer job with Anne Klein, and never returned to school.

She was made associate designer in 1971.

When Anne Klein became ill, Karan became head designer.

In 1984, Karan was given her own firm by Takihyo Corporation of Japan, Anne Klein's parent company.

Her hallmark has always been wearability - classic sportswear looks with a stylish edge, and an element of tough chic.

Karan's first collection under her own label established her immediately as a new fashion star.

Some of her current lines include the Donna Karan collection, DKNY designer watches and DKNY Tech.

Fendi



Fendi was established in 1925 by Eduardo Fendi.

Today, it is one of Italy's paramount fashion dynasties.

It is most identified for it's furs, clothing line, accessories, and fragrances.

Fendi launched its distinctive designer watches in the late 1980's.

Gucci



Guccio Gucci first opened his luggage and saddlery shop in Florence, Italy in the early 1920's.

Today, the name Gucci is associated with much more than luggage and saddlery.

In fact, it's hard to believe that one of today's greatest names in top fashion design began with such a simple shop in Italy.

Moschino



Born in Milan, Italy, fashion designer Franco Moschino (1950-1994) is the vision behind the Moschino line.

Having studied art in school, he began his career in 1971 as a sketcher for Giorgio Armani, and stayed there for eleven years.

During his time there he contributed to the Armani collections.

He launched his own design house in 1983, Moonshadow S.p.A.

This company reflected his interest in pop culture.

Being a whimsical and charasmatic designer, he rebelled at times against the fashion industry and this led to legal disputes with Louis Vuitton and Chanel.

Since his early death in 1994, Moschino's company has been under the direction of Rosella Jardini.

Sector group S.p.A took over the management of Moschino's company as part of its brand diversification process.

Tommy Hilfiger



Born March 24, 1951, and raised in Elmira, New York, Thomas Jacob Hilfiger grew up in an Irish Catholic family.

At the age of 18 he opened a store called "The People’s Place" in upstate New York.

Then, seven years later it went bankrupt and Hilfiger left retail in pursuit of designing clothing.

Tommy Hilfiger, Inc. was soon founded, and the company went public a year later.

Now the Hilfiger brand is one of the most recognizable labels in the world.

Hilfiger took what started as men's jeans and sportswear, to a half-billion-dollar empire encompassing menswear, women's wear, children's wear, footwear, eyeglasses, fragrances, designer watches and home furnishings!

Valentino



Fashion designer, Garavani Valentino opened his first studio in Rome 1959.

By 1967, Valentino is awarded the Neiman Marcus Prize in Dallas (equivalent of an Oscar in the world of Fashion).

His designer 'V' label got its magical reputation when Jacqueline Kennedy wore his designer wedding dress for her marraige to Aristotle Onassis.

The 70's launched Valentino's 'Ready-to-wear' collection.

The 80's brought about many awards for his designs, but 1986 he recieves the highest honors in Italy, the Cavaliere di Gran Croce, from the President.

By the mid to late 1990's, Valentino is a well respected designer with new product lines such as accessories, clothing, sportswear and perfume.

Founded in 1978 on the talent of Mr. Gianni Versace, one of the most prominent fashion designers of the past decades.
