History

The bow tie originated among Croatian mercenaries during the European wars of the 17th century. The Croats used a scarf to hold together the opening of their shirts around their necks.
The upper class in France soon adopted this method and named it the cravat, which flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries. However, experts are not uncertain if the cravat then developed into the bowtie and necktie, or if the cravat gave rise to the bow tie, which in turn led to the neck tie.

Materials

The materials for bow ties are almost the same as the materials used for neck ties. Certainly, the most common is silk, which is also highly recommended. Conversely, you never should choose a bow tie that is made out of nylon.

For a small investment, you can purchase bow ties made out of silk, and the look and feel is much better than that of nylon bow ties.

Silk;

  • Silk bow ties can be printed or woven.
  • Silk material has a shiny surface that looks very noble, but some silk fabrics are a little difficult to tie.
  • This is the most favored material for bow ties.

Wool;

  • This material is very popular, especially in the cold season.

Blended Fabrics;

  • Blended fabrics used for bow ties are typically made out of silk and cotton or silk and linen.

Polyester;

  • This is the cheapest option, which you should only use if you have no other choice.
  • Polyester bow ties are hard to tie, and the shine is not comparable to silk bow ties.

  • If you choose to wear a suit, the most common choice of neck attire is a neck tie.
  • This gives you the opportunity to stand out by wearing a man's bow tie, which always lends a fancy look to your outfit and will remain in people's minds.
