Prom Shoes

There is a saying that a perfect outfit starts with the right hairstyle and ends with gorgeous shoes - and that is true! If you choose the wrong shoes, you can ruin your whole appearance.

Following, we introduce you to the most relevant styles for your prom outfit.

We give you tips for choosing the perfect colour and you will learn something about the right shoe care to give your shoes a long life!

High Heels

If you want to present yourself as sexy, you should consider wearing high heels as prom shoes.

They are not the most comfortable choice, and you might even have to learn how to walk properly in them, but it will be worth the effort !

High heels are developed from the elegant pump.

The high heels makes your legs appear longer and if you are not very tall, they make you taller.

Pumps

Pumps are a classic shoe.

The basic shape in the 16.th century was wide cut and flat, the thin sole was only adapted for parquet, marmoreal floors, carpets and other floor coatings which were common in suavity.

That is why pumps are still called “court shoes”.

Over the years, pumps have changed shape somewhat.

Now the typical pump is an elegant and comfortable shoe - somewhere between a ballerina style shoe and high heels.

Pumps fit very good with most prom or evening outfits and they are usually more comfortable to wear than a high heel.

Slingpumps

These are similar to normal pumps, but the back part of the foot is free, apart from a strap.

This small but important difference means that the partially exposed foot looks sexy, but the closed toes make the shoes elegant enough for evening occasions.

These shoes are appropriate for all evening occasions and they fit very good for a prom, but you have to consider the weather !

Mules

Mules are clog type pumps.

In the 1940s and 50s, they were decorated with plums and worn by every Hollywood diva.

At one time unpopular because people found them hard to dance in, mules were rediscovered by many shoe designers in the 1990s.

Over the years people have experimented with shoe design, so you can find mules to fit every different occasion.

They're a good choice to wear on hot summer nights, as they're sexy and open.

Colour Tips

  • A shoe should be in the same colour family as your outfit, but they should not match exactly ! (not relevant for black outfits. )

  • White shoes are very light and get dirty very easy.

  • Better try cream or ivory coloured styles.

  • Light coloured shoes make feet look generally bigger than dark coloured shoes.

  • Black shoes are sometimes too heavy for a lighter toned outfit and it takes optical length from your leg.

  • Shoes in a vivid colour, shiny fabric or with decorations can transform a outfit into something more exceptional.

So it could be a good idea if you choose a decent dress for your prom and you wear some exceptional shoes and an eye catching handbag.
